Jefferson County Jail Roster Lookup

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office runs the county jail and posts a public inmate search that anyone can use. A Jefferson County inmate records search returns the people in custody right now, with name, charge, bond, and a warrant or case number. The roster does not include state prison inmates or federal detainees. It does not show housing assignments or projected release dates. For older bookings, court files and statewide systems fill the gaps. The pages here walk through how to use the roster, what a profile shows, and how visitation, mail, and money deposits work.

Jefferson County Jail Roster Overview

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Zena Stephens, operates the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. The agency posts a current inmate search, a daily arrests log, and a roster PDF that lists everyone in custody at the time the file is generated. The roster updates often, and the inmate cards include booking photos for many people. At a recent inspection, the inmate search returned 84 pages of current cards, which is consistent with the official statement that the facility serves a daily average inmate population of over 800.

What the Jefferson County inmate records search does not show is just as important. It does not list state prison inmates held by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. It does not include people in federal custody with the Bureau of Prisons or held on immigration matters. It does not show housing assignments, magistrate names, court dates, or projected release dates. Those data points belong to other systems, including the court docket and statewide locators.

The Sheriff's inmate search page is shown below and is linked from the Sheriff inmate search.

Jefferson County Sheriff inmate search with current jail roster cards

The page uses a single search box that filters the current inmate cards. Pagination buttons let you scroll through the full roster a screen at a time.

How to Use the Jefferson County Inmate Roster

The roster is built for a fast name lookup. There is no separate first-name field on the inspected page, and there is no live booking-number search. You type into the search box, the list filters, and you click into a card for the booking details. The daily arrests PDF and the current inmates PDF give you a second view of the same population.

  1. Open the Sheriff's inmate search and type a last name into the box.
  2. Scroll the filtered cards or use the page buttons to move through the list.
  3. Click an inmate name to open the booking detail with charge, bond, and warrant information.
  4. If a name does not appear, open the daily arrests PDF to check for very recent bookings.
  5. For specific verification, call the jail details line at 409-726-2540 with a name or booking number.

Recent intakes can appear on the daily log before they show on the main roster. Older bookings drop off the current roster once a person is released, so a clean current search does not prove a person was never booked. For older entries, the court file at the District Clerk or County Clerk is the lasting record.

Roster Search Fields

The Jefferson County inmate search is short on fields and heavy on filtering. Type-to-search narrows the visible cards. What a Jefferson County Inmate Profile Shows

Jefferson County Jail Facilities

The county runs the Jefferson County Correctional Facility for direct legal mail, money orders, and publications, while the Sheriff's administrative office sits in downtown Beaumont. The corrections facility is certified by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, and the Intake and Releases section handles identification, classification, and timely release. The Sheriff's vendor pages also list a Jefferson Downtown Jail under a separate deposit site ID, which is useful when sending funds.

Booking Process in Jefferson County

Every person in custody enters and leaves through Intake and Releases. The Sheriff's official corrections page describes intake as a service that ensures proper identification, classification, and timely release. Classification considers current charges, past history, conduct in the facility, and in some cases mental stability, and the facility says it uses the least restrictive option that fits the case.

After booking, charges either move forward through the courts or resolve at intake when prosecutors decline to file. The Criminal District Attorney's Intake Division reviews case submissions from local, state, and federal agencies operating in the county, and an intake attorney decides whether probable cause supports formal charges. That review explains why some bookings on the Jefferson County inmate roster never produce a court case, and why the roster charge text can change after the case is reviewed.

Bond is the next gate. The current roster warns bond and fees must be paid with exact cash. After a case is disposed, the defendant or the person whose name is on the Sheriff receipt can bring a state or federal ID to the Courts Division at 1085 Pearl Street for a cash bond refund.

Visitation Hours and Rules

The Sheriff's visitation page sets a clear schedule. Inmates get two 30-minute visits each week. All visits must be scheduled before the day of the visit, and the visitation phone is 409-726-2565. The visitation building runs Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Monday and Tuesday are closed. The kiosk for deposits keeps the same hours. Visitors may bring only an ID, keys, and cash or credit card for the kiosk. Cellphones and smart devices are not allowed inside. A visitor must stay in the Visitation Building from arrival until the visit is complete or the visit is terminated.

The schedule below comes from the Sheriff's visitation rules, which assign housing groups to different days and to the North or South side of the building.

How to Contact a Jefferson County Inmate

The county routes most inmate communication through Smart Communications, also known as SmartInmate. Family and friends can fund a Prepaid Collect account, a Voicemail Exchange account, or a PIN Debit account through the SmartInmate web portal or by calling Customer Care at 888-253-5178. Local on-site video visits are free. Remote home video visits cost twenty cents per minute and are scheduled in fifteen-minute or thirty-minute blocks. Two free electronic messages go out every Saturday, and additional electronic messages cost fifty cents each.

Regular postal mail goes through MailGuard, not the jail. Effective August 1, 2019, regular mail to a Jefferson County inmate is addressed to JCSO-SCH, INMATE NAME-BOOKING NUMBER (ID NUMBER), 9490 FM 1960 Bypass W #355, Humble, TX 77338. The inmate's name and booking number must be clearly printed on the envelope or postcard. Scans of letters, postcards, and photos reach the inmate through kiosks. Legal mail, court documents, bank statements, money orders, and publications continue to go directly to the facility at 5030 Hwy 69 S., Beaumont, TX 77705.

Commissary and Inmate Funds

Commissary and trust deposits run through several vendors. Access Securepak handles commissary and gift packages built from approved snacks, meats and cheeses, seafood, candy, and similar items. Access Corrections handles trust deposits through an app, an online site, a phone line at 866-345-1884, lobby kiosks, and walk-in retailers. Automated phone deposits use 1-888-988-4PMT (4768), which is open 24 hours a day. The Sheriff lists two facility deposit IDs: Jefferson County Correctional uses Site ID 164, and Jefferson Downtown Jail uses Site ID 170.

Money orders can also be mailed straight to an inmate, made payable to the inmate, with the inmate ID written on the order, sent to 5030 Hwy 69 S., Beaumont, TX 77705. Fees apply across deposit methods. Funds usually post within hours when sent through Access Corrections, and the agent screen lists the service fee before the deposit goes through.

If a deposit goes to the wrong account, the vendor's customer care line is the first call. SmartInmate at 888-253-5178 helps with phone and message account questions. Access Corrections at 866-345-1884 helps with trust deposit issues. The Sheriff's Office does not place individual phone calls or money on inmate accounts and points families to these vendors for service questions.
